Our Story

In the spring of 2024, Idaho faced a challenge to its simple, trusted election system with the introduction of Proposition 1. This proposition pushed for Ranked Choice Voting, a complicated and opaque voting method, causing concern among Idahoans who valued their straightforward 'one person, one vote' system.

The national focus on the presidential election meant little attention was given to this local issue, leaving Idaho's voting integrity at risk. But a group of concerned citizens stepped up. Inspired by a rousing talk by Phil Izon, an Alaskan author and expert on voting systems and rights, they formed Secure Idaho Elections (SIE) to combat the initiative. With just five months until the election and no budget, they began their campaign.

They produced educational materials, built a confederation of civic groups, and organized townhalls across Idaho. The movement was driven by volunteer retirees, entrepreneurs, and working professionals who took to organizing these townhalls, engaging in door-knocking, and hosting debates to educate voters on the complexities and potential pitfalls of Ranked Choice Voting.

These volunteers, motivated by civic duty rather than financial gain, crisscrossed the state. They shared their knowledge, answered questions, and clarified misinformation, all while maintaining a non-partisan approach to unite Idahoans against Proposition 1. Their dedication demonstrated that grassroots activism, fueled by the passion of everyday citizens, could effectively counter outside financial influence. The rest is history, a testament to Idaho's commitment to preserving its electoral integrity.

Following its success, Secure Idaho Elections established a permanent mission to protect Idaho from out-of-state financial influence and was renamed simply, Secure Idaho. Secure Idaho continues to monitor and educate about threats to election integrity, ensuring that local governance remains in the hands of Idahoans. We aim to keep the electoral process transparent and simple, safeguarding the state's voting system from any attempts at external manipulation or complexity that could undermine the will of its citizens.
